« on: September 02, 2006, 06:30:08 PM »
I am in need of a wireless router. just now i have wires trailing all over the house and its just not practical and i dont have a router either so i can only connect one pc at a time. iv read netgear and dlink are pretty good im just worried i wont be able to set it up/it wont work.

just now i have 3 pc's and a laptop (already had working wireless internet) but i need the router so i can have it all working.

you view is very much appreciated and could you please specify which model you would recommend as well.

Thanks!

ADVICE:  Though it is a good idea to ask others on what device is good for wireless routing; comparing the specs and features yourself is still the best idea since you'll be the one who'll make the decision... Furthermore, it will be your network needs that will be satisfied...

Make a checklist on your network requirements and check if the devices conform with those on the list...

Linksys, D-Link and Netgear in that order. No need to worry about the others.

I bought and recommend this one:

http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Product_C2%26cid%3D1115416825655&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper

It's compact so its small and works on broadband so its fast. Comes with everything you need and is cheap (around $60). I bought it at Best Buy.  ;D

I voted D-Link. It was free from a "phone company" when I bought their fiber optic service with  free installation. At first it was a bit confusing but thinking logically with windows xp  setup I was able to get me hooked up within 2hours and then proceeded to establish a 125' wireless connection with another house on our property "from one of my windows to the another window". They said it couldn't be done( because they wanted to charge for 2 internet connections but I proved them wrong), it was and works.  :)
