To Logon as an Administrator
« on: February 20, 2007, 01:16:57 PM »
I am presently installing software for a PIXMA MP180 multifunction printer.

I need to disable start-up features to prevent inter-reaction with AOL security ware and spy and malware previously installed.

When following the instructions below ;

It may be that you have another application blocking the launch of the
program.  The first thing to try is rebooting your computer without your
normal startup applications running.  To do this, follow the procedure
below:

1.  Click Start.

2.  Click Run.

3.  Type MSCONFIG and click OK.  The System Configuration Utility will
appear.

4.  Make a note of which startup selection your computer is set on.  If
your startup selection is set to Normal, switch it to Selective Startup
by placing the radio button dot next to Selective Startup.

5.  Uncheck the box next to 'Load Startup Items'.

6.  Click the Apply button.

7.  Click on the Services tab at the top.

8.  Place a check mark next to 'Hide all Microsoft Services'.

9.  Click the Disable All button.

10. Click Apply.

11. Click the Close button.

12. Windows will prompt you to restart your computer; click Restart.

I encounter a problem a message box appears with the following message;

Systems Configuration
An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service, You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make specified changes.

I have been instructed by onboard MS WXP H&S the following;

To start a program as an administrator
In Windows Explorer, click the program executable file that you want to open.
Press and hold SHIFT, right-click the program icon, and then click Run as.
Click The following user.
In User name and Password, type the Administrator account name and password that you want to use.

I have not been able to sucessfully execute this since,

I'm not sure precisely that I am in Windows Explorer,
what I did was, I went to Systems Configuration Utility, but could not find an icon to click ?

Will appreciate your advice.

I now believe from the following that I am in Windows Explorer
but as in the last post, is the executable file the System Configuration Utility ?

In Windows Explorer, click the program executable file that you want to open.
Press and hold SHIFT, right-click the program icon, and then click Run as.
Click The following user.
In User name and Password, type the Administrator account name and password that you want to use.

      JP ...... ok ....Then you are the system admin.
      Then here's what to try:

      Have the installation instructions in front of you.
      the instructions probably suggest disabling any anti virus applications .... So go off - line and disable all anti virus programs that you may have installed.

      Now then, just follow the installation instructions exactly as they are listed .
      When you have the software and the new hardware installed , you may safely turn back on all the AVs you had disabled ( turned off)
      Now reboot your machine and the install should be completed .......
      Please do the print test to be sure it's printing ok and then test the scanner.

        Jp ....Disable means to turn them off ........ look down in the lower right corner of your screen ...by the clock.....do you not see it icons of your running anti virus programs ...... right click on them and turn them off .... ( it might say quit ,disable or quit )
