BLACK SCREEN

My friend has Windows XP. He updated his graphics card but plugged in incorrectly. Since then he turns on the computer, the windows xp screen comes up then it goes into safe mode, screen is black. Can someone give me a few step by sep instructions on what to do?

You are saying its going into SafeMode, but not that you are putting it into Safemode

Try entering Safemode yourself, without the computer doing it for you
(Press F8 repeatably before the Windows XP screen)

How did he manage to put a vid card in incorrectly ? ? ?

I will try the f8 toenter into safe mode. I do not know the details of the video card. He upgraded the video card from the one that it came with. The details I do not have but will ask for more details. One I get it in safe mode via f8, then what?

It appears I have read your question wrong

You did the following:

1) Installed the [physical] card wrong (did not seat it into the slot correctly)

2) Did the Windows Hardware/Software installation for the card wrong

What video adapter was in there originally? What did he put in? Were the original video drivers uninstalled at any point? Have you tried the card in another machine to see if it is functional?
