Virus
« on: May 15, 2007, 12:49:30 PM »
Hi.
My computer (OS Windows XP ) is doing strange things. I keep getting a blank page from another Internet provider when I'm on the Net and this morning it would not let me log on at all. My machine is now painfully slow. I can make a cup of tea and have a shower before it has started up. I do have some anti-spyware but they have not solved the problem. Any ideas?

      Hi fellas
I have AVG and aol anti-spyware and I was told to load a thing called anti-vir. I don't think I had scanned my PC for ages and probably did not have them running. I don't know. Computers are not my thing as you can probably tell.

I forgot to say that before last week everything was working perfectly. I don't think I have done anything out of the ordinary.

First download Spybot - Search & Destroy.  Then update your AVG and your new Spybot, and then try scanning with them in Safe Mode.  Let us know how it goes.

Do you have both of these runing at the same time? NOT a good idea.

              Hey billh5773 try this:
              Start\Run
              cmd
              Code: [Select]
bootcfg /rmsw /mm /id 1some virus may added a switch at the boot.ini to limit your ram
              this command takes it off!

Don't worry, you haven't caused any offense here.  I believe GX1_Man was simply implying that you probably shouldn't take Ledio's advice.

Anyway...have you taken any of our suggestions yet?  If so, how are things going?
