If I had really paid $1400 for software, I'd make *censored* sure i knew where my product key was!!! Or, for that money, I'd expect Digidesign to have a record of me being a legal owner, and supply me with another one.

I did have 2... but about 5 months ago... when i would turn my computer on one of my DVD drives would start making wierd sounds and then it would open on its own... and my computer wouldnt finish booting until i closed it also windows wouldnt recognize it... so figured it was fried or something so i just removed it... so in short i only have one

i was told by my commander that i was being considered for seperation... and without orders i couldnt outprocess the base well finally i was told that the decision was made that i was being discharged... but i still didnt have orders then when i finally got my orders my effective date of seperation was the next day

This sounds like the same problem I had before...it ended up being a bad sector on the hard drive.  I got a new harddrive, installed windows unto it and used my original one as a slave and was able to get most of my stuff off of the old one.  Couple of my friends told me I was lucky to get anything at all off the old drive.  Again, I don't know if this is the same problem you are facing since I am a total noob but if you got a $$$$ program, it might be worth it to go buy a hard drive and see if it works..if it doesn't, you just got a new harddrive for later.
