Resolved: How do you enable hibernation in Vista?
« on: August 06, 2007, 08:43:48 PM »
I've tried the command line thing that is suggested everywhere (powercfg -H ON) I get a blank reply and it goes back to the prompt. However the hibernate option is still doesn't exist. I'm sure that you can enable hibernation somehow, one of my friend's computers which came with Vista had it enabled by default.

Vista... its in the subject line

Vista isn't keen on Tabs, its easier to use individual menus.

Right click your desktop, click "Personalize"
    Select "Screensaver"
At the bottom, there is a "Create Power Settings"
Select your current plan, and click "Change"
Hibernation is in there, under Advanced.

It seems that Microsoft is no longer greatly suggesting that you shutdown, but that you put your computer in sleep, unless you have a laptop running on battery.

No problem, there are some things that are getting harder to find in the newer Windows Operating systems, then what they were before

New problem: the computer turns on as soon as it turns on. Another thing: this is actually pointless. The computer boots up faster when I choose the turn off option, Vista is really screwed up.............

Enhanced hibernation support will be offered in SP1, whenever it comes out.

You might want to start a new topic about problems with Hibernate staying in Hibernate.

If you have a newer desktop, its not a bad idea to just leave it in Standby.
(But dont let it run in standby for days on end...)

Possible causes for Hibernation powering on automatically:
Improper power settings on your LAN card.
