cant locate riptide device, legacy feature disabld

My computer is displaying unable to locate riptide device, legacy feature disabled.  C:/Windows>_

Please help, running on win98, first visit to this site, I have so far loved all the valuable info I have looked over trying to find solution to this problem. Thanks for the help and the use of this site. Denita

type dxdiag in the run box...this will report any problems with your sound card..try update the drivers...right-click on the my computer icon click the properties tab...now click the device manager scroll down the list...till you come across the sound video controllersicon...now click the + sign...your sound card is listed yes? is there any yellow exclaimation sign next to it.......have you re-installed your system lately.....if so you may have forgotten to load the sound driver...hth
