Windows XP Not Installed Properly
« on: October 24, 2007, 07:16:53 AM »
Hi,
I need some ones help.  Everytime I turn my computer on it acts like it is going to start up right but don't.  It shuts itself down everytime it gets to the Windows XP Screen.  It just keeps recycling.
I have tried F8 and it takes me to the Safemode Screen, everytime I try one of themit goes back to the start mode.
My Windows XP is not installed right and I beleive this is why it is doing it.  How can I get my computer up and running long enough to get the Windows XP installed right?
I didn't have this problem until I installed a new cd burner to my computer.
Please Help

Remove the burner.
How is the burner hooked up ? ?
There 's something Windows doesn't like about it.

I had the main drive as master and the new drive as slave.
But I unhooked the new one and it still isn't working.  When I try to start safe mode it goes through some of Windows that is installed then it stops and starts to reboot itself.

Before someone suggests that Windows XP Reinstall is needed:

Did you change any options in the BIOS when you installed the new CD drive?

Instead of using Safe Mode, try Last Known Good Configuration with the drive removed.

Maybe, while installing new drive, you moved something....reconnect cables, reseat video card, RAM, any card you have inside.

If you're still having the problem after following Zylstra's advice:

"Instead of using Safe Mode, try Last Known Good Configuration with the drive removed"

then from the "Windows Advanced Options Menu"; if the following item is listed, select it.  It should stop the automatic restart and probably show a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with an error message.  Copy the entire message in it's entirety, post it here, or search internet for solution.

Disable The Automatic Restart On System Failure

The above Advanced Option menu item should appear for a Windows XP SP2 installation.  I'm not sure if it appears on Windows XP orginal, or SP1 installation.
