Please describe how it crashes.  Blue screen?  Error message? Reboot?  Freezes completely leaving the current window displayed?  A HD that is starting go out can cause this but so can a ton of other things.  What brand is the computer, how old is it and does it still have the original HD?  What operating system does it have?

The computer freezes up leaving the current window display, the computer has no brand and is about 3 years old and currently is running XP. The mainboard has recently been changed, could that be the problem?

I went from a DFI 865PE INFINITY mainboard to a Asrock P4i65G.

If you simply connected the HDD to the new build ...absolutely.
XP is running on the old hardware profile.
Travel Here for instructions on a repair install of XP.
I suggest reading it through first to get familiar with the procedure and then printing out a copy for reference...

Warning !: Any and all data can be lost in this procedure so make sure to backup anything important before proceeding.
However if done properly all your data, programs and OS will be as they were.

Good Luck.
