    Attach images in email
    « on: January 07, 2008, 06:19:39 AM »
How do I attach (embed?) an image in an email so that it will appear as the body of the message and not as an attachment?

What email service are you using? Yahoo Mail, Gmail, etc? or Outlook?
In outlook, you just need to drag the image into the body of the message.
In yahoo mail, hotmail and gmail, I suspect you need to attach the image and then insert an html image tag where you want it to show up. Like this:

    Code: [Select]
    <img src="attachement001.jpg">

I tried with Yahoo using different codes I can find on the internet, but it shows the codes instead of the picture.

Use the new Yahoo Mail front end.  When you compose a message you have an option to go into "rich text" mode, which allows you to insert images.

In neither classic nor new Yahoo! Mail, the rich text composition doesn't have a command to insert images.

From Yahoo! Answers, it seems that Yahoo! Mail does not allow images to be inserted into the text body. The way they normally do it is by composing the mail in Outlook then forward to Yahoo! Mail.

I am just wondering whether there is really a way to do it within Yahoo! Mail.

        Aye, you're right.  That's a little backwards, isn't it?

There may be some way of hacking Yahoo's mail system, but mightn't it be better simply to use an email interface that readily allows the insertion of images?

I just did a test as an experiment.  I logged onto Yahoo Mail and attached a photo.  I then sent this message to my regular POP mail account and opened that message in Windows (Vista) Mail.  The photo appeared in the body of the message.  Same for Outlook Express on another computer.  With Outlook 2003, it appeared as an attachment, not in the body of the message.

        Just curious -

Isn't this whole thing dependent not only on the sender, but also on the receiver?

In other words,  if the receiver's method of handling email does not allow ( or is configured off )  inline pictures,  then they'll always be attachments?

If this is correct,  then even if the original poster finds a method that inserts pictures,  he can't always be sure that this is the way his email will appear on the other end.

In the case of Yahoo! Mail, it allows images to be displayed in the message body (as a receiver), but does not allow image insertion to text body during composition (as a sender).
          Weird policy, isn't it?
