HARD DRIVE FAILURE!
« on: March 04, 2008, 10:59:32 AM »
I could really use some help here......I have an 80 GB hard drive that has failed.  I replaced it with a new 160 GB hard drive....problem is, I wasn't able to get all my files off the bad hard drive.  Last night I was able to slave the bad hard drive to another hard drive.  I was able to see all my files and go into each of them.  They are all still there......what I need help with is, how can I get my files off the bad hard drive and put them on the new hard drive?  I know a bit about computers but this one is really bugging me!

If you can access them, you should be able to just open 2 windows (1 to each hard drive) and drag them over. From what you posted that sounds like it should work.

Hook it up as a slave in your machine.
There are jumpers between the IDE connector and the power connector.
The jumper diagram should be on top of the 80G drive.
Make sure all power is removed before working inside the case.

Cable it as shown:

Use Windows Explorer to copy move the data you need.
Programs will not copy and run properly...they will have to be re-installed.
