    Laptop dead!
    « on: March 17, 2008, 03:22:11 AM »
We have a Toshiba P200 laptop, which is not responding to anything. Earlier we tried installing an old printer, but that didn’t work. So we bought a new one and that seemed to work OK. Just after that the computer started doing a Norton antivirus scan. We tried to cancel that but it just hung there doing nothing. We went onto help files but they also hung there doing nothing. Basically the computer just refused to do anything, even shut down. Task Manager would not function; we only got an error message. All we get is a dark, blank screen. We have been unable to shut it down. The arrow curser is there and moves around, but there’s nothing to click on. Please help!

Try unplugging the ac cord and taking the battery out. This will shut the computer down. You should then be able to put the battery back in and start the computer.

Why it locked up is anyone's guess.

        Need...more...info...gasp  :P

Operating system / antivirus & antispyware protection / service packs installed / when did it start happening / did it ever work right / installed any new software?

If you hold the power button down for 5-to-8 seconds, the computer will shut off.  Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?
