yeah, i think i know.
Press alt+ctrl+S (tools > send recieve settings > Define S/R groups)
down the bottom you have the send and recieve options when outlook is offline.
tick the top box and unselect the bottom box.
You could even try ticking the send when outlook closes automatically box (bottom box of online send/recieve options)
then it will send all mail you have made in the past 3 mins and it wont try to keep sending any unsent mail after it closes.
You must be able to make it not run in the background after it closes. Just found out mine runs in background after closing at work . So im working on that now
