I have norton internet security 2007, and I have to say that I am pretty happy with it, i know people say it takes to much ram, but Is it worth the protection.

Can somebody tell me weather or not paying for the good norton programs Is better than the freeware ones.

Money aside Is It Worth It?

I used to have Norton Antivirus 2003. I thought it was very good but I wouldn't replace it with my current Kaspersky Antivirus which was installed after getting Norton 360.

I think I can safely say that Norton 360 was the worst I've ever installed.
I especially hated the fact that it couldn't scan individual files.

If it is about preferences, norton comes close to last ones. I will choose BitDefender, Avira, Avast, Avg, something else.

If you are happy with Norton Internet Security, than go with it, it is the best for you. When you will want to change, use something else; then we will talk about our preferences.

        avg free is free...
        normal avg isnt.
and i have found in my experience that the pay version works better.
i was using free.. scanning daily.. and then i got the proper version and it found about 3 viruses...
like not tracking cookies and stuff.. but trojans and the like.

so thats why id recommend buying it..
although avg free works great as well.

I think this should be in the Virus or Off Topic board.

Norton products hog resources and aren't too effective at malware removal/protection either.  They are extremely difficult to remove, just like a virus.

I highly recommend AVG Free - it's a very light program and is extremely effective when dealing with malware, plus the latest version includes antispyware capabilities too.  The differences between the paid and free versions relate to priority updates, scheduled tasks and support, not to its detection abilities - free and paid are equal in that respect.

I also rate NOD32 highly, it provides excellent protection but does cost money and can bog down some computers.  I must say though that it never bothered any of the PCs I tried, although it does use more resources than, say, AVG.

        Ditto...
From my experience, Norton, and McAfee must be the worst tools on the market...
