Problem with mic

Well, i been having problems with mic

My mic doesn't work, I have tried 2 different ones (maybe they both broken??)

but something seems odd, when I am in ventrilo and turn on my winamp, it starts playing the song for everyone in ventrilo channel,

or when I put on windows sound recorder + winamp it records my song instead of my voice

I have windows xp home

so heres the question, do I have issues with my computer hardware or I have something wrong with my computer settings?

any help appreciated, English my 2nd language so if you don't understand something, ask over

Is the mic turned on in the Volume Control?

I had no mic option under my volume control but I managed to find it under Options->Properties and realized my mic was muted,
