windows me

I have a operating system with windows me. I tried rebooting my computer but lost the  number to  authenicate the software. Could i purchase a new hard drive with a boot up disk  or would i have to purchase a new cpu.  Please help

    Umm...allow me to get a few things straight. Is this a new computer you're talking about? Or did you re-boot the computer, and now suddenly it's asking you to re-activate your windows me license?

    i don't think you would have to purchase a new cpu, or a new hard drive. Have you tried re-trieving your activation code (which i think is the 'number' you're refering to), from your computer manufacturer? Or contacting tech support?
