    Well that was a bit of fun. I think I worked out why it shut down on me, as it did it again while gathering this information. Just before it shut down, I heard a faint vibration sound. It might be a heat sink overheating, and then the system shuts down. (New Problem)maybe existing but undiscovered.
    So this is what the bios tells me.

    and on reboot it told me it was a thermal event that caused the shut down

    It takes 15 years to become an overnight success & Windows 10 will add another 10 years to it.

      Progress. Ive saved the changes and the dell has given me this screen

        Ok the temp issue has been improved (so far), I added an external home fan.
        Here are the screen shots from previous configuration changes, ( for the benefit of anyone that may need or want them)

        Now that I have added the hard drive, 13 gig fujitsu win98 SE, do I run the boot device menu in 1. Normal (because so far this has not been normal) or in one of the other numbers
