    Plug stuck in computer port
    « on: August 22, 2008, 08:40:40 PM »
I have plugged in one of the round plugs in the back of my laptop.  I cannot get it out.  Obviously, it is the wrong size but it fit perfectly.  Can anyone give me any ideas on how to remove it?  Thank you in advance!

What was the plug for? What were you plugging in?

What kind of laptop is it? What model number does it have?

The round plug that comes to mind is PS2  - usually keyboard or mouse.  It has an offset peg which should prevet wrong alignment but - yeah - more info might help.

Sorry, I was out of town this morning.  The plug is the round one like you would hook to the back of a television.  There are also red, yello, and white single prong connectors on the same cord.  You use it to hook a video camera to your television.

I have a Dell latitude laptop and there is a port on the back that is round.  It actually has a picture of a TV above it.  I inserted the plug and did not have to force it.  Now it will not come out.  I am thinking I will have to cut the cord and just leave it in the computer unless someone has another idea.  If I use pliers to try and remove it I think I will damage the computer.

Sounds like RCA connectors - red/white for audio - yellow for vid.  Only other round one I think of on a puter (sometimes) is "S" video but that is multi pin.

Just re-read your post - ahh so it was one of those you plugged in.  Still wondering what you plugged into - as can't see an RCA going into something different.  On occasions those plugs can grip real tight on an RCA socket - and so a careful twist with pliers while trying to withdraw just might help.  They go on much easier than they come off.

If you do happen to resort to chopping its cable - drastic measure - be very sure puter is totally powered down and disconnected and then be sure no conductors can short out.

I would take it to a repair shop.
