Long download problems

Hello, I have been trying to download a very large file using Firefox. After about 24 hours, my computer will become unresponsive. I cant open any other  application. I cannot restart my computer because I cant resume the download. What can I do?

I just realized this.



In Mozilla Firefox, you can pause and continue your downloads. This may be what you want.

I do use firefox, but still, if I do pause the download I still cant get anything to function. I am downloading from Image shack. It has a torrent manager which you use and then download your file via http. The speeds can be slow.
