    Windows keeps restarting
    « on: September 05, 2008, 11:39:04 AM »
I bought this computer in the spring of 2006.  I know little about computers and was with my ex when I bought it.  He discouraged me from getting  a warranty.

This is my problem.  I turn the computer on and it just keeps restarting after the windows bar comes up.  I have found similar questions regarding this problem and can't understand what anyone is talking about.  I have tried to follow the advice and instructions of everyone's response but have no clue about computers.

The problem started in the fall of 2006 so I just put it away and used my roommates computer.  Well I am moving out and need to have my own computer.  HELP!!!! :o

Can you tell us a little about the machine?

And what version of Windows are you running? Do you remember what you were doing just before this started to happen? Can you give us a short list of the things you have tried to do to fix it?

Like I said, i don't know much about computers so this is what I can tell you.  It is a Gateway media center Edition 2005
      AMD 64 X2

This happened a few months after I bought it in 2006 and I have not used it since.  I had just installed a new Norton Antivirus so I didn't think that it was a virus.  I have tried some of the suggestions that I read on here like pressing F8 while the computer is starting up.  I tried going to safemode, Last Known Configurations, Disable automatic restart on system failure.  Nothing works.

Let me know if there is information about the computer that you need to know in order to help that I am not giving and I will try and firgure out how to tell you.

      Thanks!!!!!

This qualifies to Guiness book, under "Procrastination" section.....LOL

Can you start in Safe Mode?
Restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key until menu appears.
