    RAM Upgrade
    « on: September 05, 2008, 03:41:53 AM »
I want to upgrade my DDR RAM from 256 MB to 1 GB.

My system have Intel 845 Chipset (Mercury) Motherboard with PIV @ 2.4Ghz and Windows XP w SP3 is installed.

Can I upgrade RAM on my system w/o any problem? Any issues can occur?

Hahaha... the blind leading the blind here... I dont know how much you know about the insides of a computer, but your question does give an indication. ( I wish someone told me in these terms.)

Sure you can upgrade your RAM easy.

        Remove the Power cord.

When you open up the case locate the old ram .

Before you TOUCH ANYTHING, make sure you are grounded to the CASE. ( This is done by simply touching the case with your bare hand, that way you will be sure not to have any Static electricity arks (commonly called ESD) that will destroy many things in your computer.

Carefully remove your old ram ( if youve never done this b4, there may be plastic clips at each end of the ram sticks. Push them down and the stick should lift up out of the socket, there are other types)and store the ram in a static resistant envelope if possible.

Making sure you are statically discharged again, place your new ram in their slot ensureing the dimple or cut out piece,  on the pin side of the stick is in the correct location, push it in the slot firmly till you "feel it" it click into place and the plastic clips engage to secure the stick into place.
        Check it is located correctly.
Reassemble the case, plug it in and it should work and recognize the new RAM.
It takes 15 years to become an overnight success & Windows 10 will add another 10 years to it.

@senthilvalli: Ok. Now I'm ready to buy.

@ImnoGuru: Thx. But it's not for my question. I don't know, how do you understand my question.

I'm just asking if my system take or understand 1GB RAM or not. Because the maximum possible capacity of RAM is available for all motherboard. So I ask 1 GB is in or cross that limit.

                I see, I misunderstand you.
From what Ive read you can put in up to 1.5 gig ram. Others have put in 2 gig and had problems.
your 1 gig by these standards seems OK. IMHO

Is this a bought compter?  Or did somebody build it for you?  If you purchased it as is, then go to www.crucial.com, put in the model of your computer, and it will tell you the max ram your computer can handle (if your problem hasn't already been solved)
