speackers not working on monitor

Hi
   I have a dell computer Optiplex model GX270,i have just purchased a  second hand flat screen lcd monitor model pv 720a and everything is ok but i cannot get any sound out of the speakers, the lady i got it from assured me they are working can you help,is it the driver if so where can i down load one from for free,or wwat it be?

You should not need any drivers.

Do you have an audio lead connecting the audio input of the monitor to the audio output of the computer sound card?

Is the volume setting of the monitor on zero?

There are no covers to hinder access to cable connections, but the speaker module does not come installed: You'll need a screwdriver to remove a small panel to connect it. This module has a convenient headphone jack but lacks volume or mute controls; you have to access the on-screen menu to control the sound.

Thank you all for responding the speakers are working now had to get new lead from computer to speakers as did not know there was a jack point at the back of the speakers though they was built in to flat screen  well done thanks  .

You thought the sound would travel along the video cable?
