    Vista Problem
    « on: May 05, 2009, 08:48:01 AM »
This morning when I booted up my computer I was greeted with a problem that I have never experienced before.

I have no more items pinned to my start menu!

I am unable to pin items back onto the Start Menu.

I didn't think much of it, but then I noticed that my color scheme, most of my program defaults, and many other settings weren't the same.

When I opened up my Itunes and Windows Media Player, it went through the Installer/initial set-up.

It may not seem to be a problem, but it is sure becoming an annoyance.
So I am stumped and kind of worried, any help/ideas?

    Edit, discovered another problem.

Unable to right click and select new.

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit.
AVG Antivirus, I ran a virus scan this morning when I discovered the problem. No results.

      Try this mate..
Right click the taskbar. Select properties. Select the Start menu Tab. Tick the "Store and display a list of recently opened programs. If you now click "customise", towrds the bottom you can select how many files you wish to show.

It is already set for this, thanks though.

I just use System Restore to go back to the previous day, when something like that hoses up my Windows OS.  That's what it's for.  (Those little "Oooops!" that come along every now and again. )

does the issue only occur on this theme? Does it occur on Windows Classic theme? I suggest you first perform a Clean Boot to troubleshoot the issue.

        1. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility.

Note: Please click Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up.

        2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).

        3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".

        4. Restart the computer and test the issue.

Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK".

Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment. If the issue disappears, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

Meanwhile, you can also check if this occurs on other user account. If this still occurs, we may need to perform a System Restore.

        Hope this helps!

As curious as I am to figure out what the exact problem is, I gave in and did the system restore that TheShadow recommended.

And the system restore put everything back to normal, thank you both for your help  :)
