External HDD Case with a PATA HDD
    « on: November 10, 2008, 07:57:36 AM »
    good morning.

i recently purchased the below HDD case:
    http://www.amazon.com/External-Enclosure-Case-Types-Hard/dp/B000GFSVZK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1226265692&sr=8-1

i had a computer die and this was my slave hdd so it is still in working order.  anyways, the hdd has some data that i need to access.  i purchased the external enclosure and i cannot access the data.

my new computer can see the drive b/c it appears in Disk Management..but i cannot see it via windows explorer.

what do i need to do to access my data?

    thanks in advance!

Thank you for the reply but i the link takes me to the following topic: How to take ownership of a file or a folder in Windows XP

I am not able to see any folders or the drive itself within windows explorer...i can only see the drive via 'Disk Management' and it will only allow me to format the hdd.

there is data on the hdd that i need to access.

In that case i would discard the enclosure idea and hook it up as an internal slave...much more reliable data transfer anyways.
