    Computer overheats
    « on: December 26, 2008, 04:23:01 AM »
Hi, my computer fan seems to stay at one low speed all the time . When i start to play a game the computer will just keep getting hotter and hotter till it overheats and shuts off. i have installed and run speed fan but only very rarely will the fan run faster to cope with the increase in temperature of the processor.
    It is a phoniex bios

    Win9x:NO  64Bit:NO  GiveIO:YES  SpeedFan:YES
    I/O properly initialized
    Linked ISA BUS at $0290
    Linked Intel 82801GB ICH7 SMBUS at $18C0
    Scanning ISA BUS at $0290...
    Scanning Intel SMBus at $18C0...
    Found TOSHIBA fan driver
    Found Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz
    End of detection
    Loaded 0 events

    Any ideas?

What temperatures are reported by SpeedFan?
Did you clean vents with compressed air?
How old is the laptop? Still under warranty?

while surfing the internet its 62 and 63.
While playing a game like celtic kings for e.g. it goes upto 92 and 93.
        Laptop is 2yrs old.
At one point it could play war of the world slowly without shutting down . then i dowloaded widows update for the grafics card and the computer then played the game with better grafics and quicker, to the point where the computer got so hot it shuts down . I think its a software problem. I cannot change the grafics acceleration on this card.
Havnt cleaned the computer with comprssed air.
        No warranty.
        this was the update.
