    Recommendation for CH
    « on: January 07, 2009, 11:58:08 AM »
is there any way that the topic starter could mark a solved topic as solved?
it'd make it easier to see who needs help and who's problem is solved
    just an idea :)

This has been discussed many times in the past.

As I recall, we never got anywhere with it?

I was just thinking that the other day, would be great :)

I rarely see the mod's doing it these days though anyway.

It's been discussed several times in the past.
It's not very often done by staff because it's a lot of work for 11 people.  Most of the posters, by statistics alone, won't be back or won't remember to mark their topics solved - if they do, it has to be double checked to make sure it is actually solved.  Some topics also don't really have a point where you can say it's definitely solved or not.  A forum modification could be installed to make this easier, but these can sometimes cause problems.
It's a good idea, but all the discussions in the past have come to the conclusion that it's not a workable idea.

You also have the case where suggestions have seemingly resolved the issue and 2 weeks later the Topic is active again because the machine is even more wonked than it was originally...
Personally i don't see any advantage to it myself.
Chris tried this in the Virus and Malware section alone...ask him how much work it was...

I remember now, the malware section was one place we tried it out.
By "we" I mean Chris, once when he'd just been made a moderator (before malware specialists, I believe) and again, later on, with the malware specialists helping.
By that, you can see that even with a team doing it in just one board, it wasn't workable.
patio's point is also valid - especially in the malware section, where some people tend to get infected over and over again.
