There will be video as soon as you install the new card.

Just run the CD that comes with the card when you boot back up with it.

Windows will install generic driver, which will allow you to use the monitor until you install real driver.

One I install the AGP video card, do I need to disble onboard video or something?

And as to the card, does it matter which brand I buy or are they all the same?

Oh, and the fan on the heatsink doesnt spin freely, or at least it makes a grinding noise while turning.  So do I need to get a new fan too, and if so is there a particular type or just any?

Most today's cards will do it for you automatically.
As for the brand, if you're not shopping for some super card, any card will do. Just don't get the cheapest one, and make sure, it has at least 256MB of RAM.

As for the fan, I'm not a hardware guy.
