    User Accounts
    « on: January 24, 2009, 03:48:15 PM »
    Hello again to the computer hope community,

    Recently I set my son up with a limited user account so that he could log on and off the computer. The problem is he is unable to read/write files on the computer. I would rather then make him an administrator account like to find a workaround so that he has near admin status.. I'm running windows Xp home edition. It seems also that a majority of programs and games do not work from upon his account, any help is appreciated!

        A little excerpt from M$ about a Limited User account.  You don't say what programs won't work  ???

        A Limited User account lets you use most of the capabilities of the computer, but only an Administrator can make changes that affect other users of the computer. For example, in a Limited User account, you can use:
        •

        Web browsers and e-mail programs
        •

        Productivity programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint
        •

        Entertainment programs that let you play music and video, edit photographs, and much more.

          Things such as MSN, Spore, and a variety of other programs.. I know that in Professional edition there are way to access different usergroups and wanted to know whether this was possible on home to increase the privileges of a limited user. Also the flash and java players refuse to work from the account.

            make him a power user, or right click the programs you want him to use and add him as a user, that way he can use only what you give him permission to.

              How do I make him a power user? I'm running home edition, so whenever I make a new account the only options I see is "Limited User" and "Administrator"

                  APPLIES TO

                      * Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
                      * Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
                      * Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition

                  I'm running XP home edition, I don't see how that can be any use to me.
