i had to get a new motherboard and i have to reinstall my windows xp media center, will i lose everything on my hard drive?

Yes, because you'll have to format hard drive in order to reinstall Windows.
However, you can slave the hard drive in question in another computer before you format it, and backup your data.
Alternatively, you can use hard drive enclosure.
