Yes. If another computer has Ubuntu on it, it can read another hard drive place din the same computer. That's one easy way to copy personal photos, docs and mp3s to another Hard drive as a precaution. Ubuntu can read Windows XP data files, but it may not write them back properly, unless you have a FAT32 partition bailable.
Myself, I like Puppy, it loads quick and is very easy for me.
But the preference for Windows is to use Barts PE.
