Desktop background locked

Running Windows XP SP3.  The desktop background is locked on a picture and I can't get in to change it.  When I click on the display tab  there is supposed to be an icon for the background but it's missing.  How can I fix this please?

My gut feeling is that you got hit by something bad, like a virus.

This may be a ruse to get you to buy a product to fix your computer.
Try creating a new user account and see if the new account has the same problem.

Is it a background picture that you chose? Or does it say something along the lines of "you are infected. get a fix ASAP!"?  IF its the latter, you probably have a virus.

Download HijackThis:

by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
Install, and run it.
Post HijackTHis log.

NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

Your computer is infected, and on a top of it, you don't use any AV program.

This is an older machine that I have for my 5 year old daughter to use non- internet.  She just plays barbie games and such.  Thank you, I will read and start there.
