    Newbie with a new problem

Hello.  I have previously used Castle Cops but see they are no more.

I have an interesting and I hope not fatal problem.  I am unsure of where it came from.

As I type from my wife's laptop... several days ago while using the internet I suddenly, for no apparent reason, started getting this Windows Automatic Updates want to restart your computer message about every ten minutes. While aggravating I just clicked x and cancelled it. I turned off the computer and went to work.

Upon restarting the computer later it would only boot in a faux 'safe' mode and would not allow me to ge out of it. I can still get into the real safe mode by tapping F8 as I turn on the computer but am unsure what to do to repair it from there. Any ideas?
