Old Java installer keeps firing up
« on: May 12, 2005, 06:59:52 AM »
Every time I boot the WinXP (pro) pc an old Java installer fires up - got instructions from java.com to clean registry, uninstall and reinstall offline in a new folder but still no luck.

Would really appreciate any further ideas how to get rid of the thing.

Thanks

Type msconfig in the run window and see if there is a reference to Java. Download Hijack This and run a Scan then check to delete ALL references to Java and delete ALL folders with Java.

Then I guess you'll want to install the latest Java jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe

Thank you, God :)

I'll definitely give it a try and get back to you about the result. I haven't tried HijackThis but cleaned the registry using RegSupreme (tried checking manually for Java references, too).

Bingo! HijackThis did the job. Superb tool. I deleted my StarOffice installation as well since there was a Java entry connected to that, too.

Many thanks!
