converting file format

 ???pardon my ignorance but im using corel word perfect 8 (on a relatives computer) and when i go to open a document on my disc a window pops up with that says: convert file format.  it has: ms word for window 97 (the program i used to write it i guess) highlited.  i click okay and then another window pops up saying: unknown file format.
how can i open my file, thanks.

Ryan:

Try this:

Right-click on the WordPerfect document file and choose Open With and then WordPerfect.

That might do it.
