    bad sector in harddisk

    recently i found my pc get not booting. it show some missing or corrupt in windowsroot>\system32\hal.dll file.and instructed reinstall a copy of file. i consults my vendor he say" there r too many bad sector create in u hard disk. so my question is
       (1)is it correct diagnosis?
       (2) how to avoid to create bad sector in hard disk

    Welcome to the CH forums.

    1.  Run your hard-disk manufacturer's diagnostic program - see here.
    2.  Bad sectors can just happen as any disk ages, the surface breaks down eventually.   If your disk is fairly new you should check on the warranty period and make a claim against the warranty if you can.  Best advice is to make sure your backup is up-to-date.
