      I use a program called Restoration. I found it on the Internet. Search File delete Restoration. The first link in Google should be to PCWorld.com where I got it from. You'll want to download to a drive other than the C:\. It does a reasonable job. I also here there is an undelete in the command prompt somewhere but I've never bothered it.

            well despite the fact the programs exist... if you run a program like eraser constantly it may be long gone :/ but yes there are files that can do that... and also if you... say you deleted the file then installed/downloaded a HUGE file (like 1 gig) it may be harder to recover and still have typos/errors..

            Not trying to be negative but its the truth... sorry :(

              Keep in mind that the less you use that drive (install software or modify files on it) the less likely you are to overwrite that file you're trying to recover.
              I've used 'active undelete' and it can be run from a thumb drive, it doesn't have to be installed on the drive you are trying to recover.
              If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

                You can use data recovery freeware such as Tokiwa, Pandora Recovery, PC Inspector File Recovery, Power Data Recovery, and other.

                Good luck ...

                If your OS is XP - use one from my signature.

                I found this program more usable, than more complicated other programs.

                It is fast,very simple in use, and does job of deleted file recovery well.

                Just do it immediately, because when you deleted file just now, information is still on disk;

                However, the probability of complete information restoration decreases. with time.

                For example, if just after delete, you can restore 99.9999% of files deleted, after one hour of work it can be 90%, and after  two 86, and so on.
