    RAM Problem
    « on: August 12, 2009, 08:57:26 PM »
I'm looking to buy a new computer.

I'm looking for a laptop, Windows Vista OS.

I want Vista 32-bit and at least 4 GB RAM.

But that's where the problem is.

Every time I look for a laptop, I find that the only way you can have 4GB RAM or more is with 64-bit, which I do not want.

Is it possible to have 32-bit OS and at least 4GB RAM?

i quick googled, many "cases" of people who installed 4 gb of ram on a 32 bit system and it did not pick up the 4th gb of ram, because it is "reserved" for system resources

      buut.

you can look for ways to bypass this with a google search.

you can upgrade to 64 bit

A 32bit OS will use approx. up to 3.4G of RAM....
This is due to the limitations and addressing of memory inherent in the OS itself.
No amount of googling will produce a workaround no matter what anyone tells you.

So, bottom line is no more than 3 GB of RAM on a 32-bit OS?

        Bummer.

For 4GB of RAM you will want a 64 bit system.  I would recommend that move anyway.
