Help Please, Computer keeps shutting down after reboot!
    « on: August 25, 2009, 05:18:52 PM »
I'm somewhat familiar with computers and I've never seen this before.  When my computer boots to the start menu almost immediately a message reads:

This system is shutting down.  Please save all work in progress and log off.  Any unsaved changes will be lost.  This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.

Time before shutdown 1:00 (This counts down)

    -Message-

    The system process
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe" terminated unexpectedly with the status code 0

I have reason to believe it's a virus and not a hardware problem, something along the lines of the BlasterWorm but I have no clue.  Whatever happened has removed my ability to connect to the internet as well.  I tried safe mode but the message continues to pop up.  I know how to disable my computer from shutting off by typing "shutdown \a" but my computer runs so sluggishly it's hard to do anything.

I don't currently have a virus program (Looking to purchase one).  I haven't had a virus in 2 years though until this crap!  Please help, I would appreciate it greatly.

    Windows XP
    Dell Dimension 4600c

    its a virus
and a flaw in xp that if you term a system process it auto shutdowns
look on the processes tab on taskmanager when its doing its shutdown
    make sure
there is a process caled lsass and none called lsasss

I tried pulling up task manager while it was counting down till shutdown and the icon appears but I can't open it.  So I tried "shutdown /a" and I was able to check task manager, I only saw lsass not lsasss.

Try booting in safe mode and then stopping the shutdown process with shutdown -a . Then try running hijackthis as well as MBAM and SAS. If not possible, run this from the run menu (WIN+R):

      Tasklist > "%userprofile%\Desktop\processes.txt"

Open processes.txt and paste the contents here.
