What is the difference between a 7.1 and 5.1 sound card?

5.1 surround: Front left/right, rear left/right, center, sub

7.1 surround: Front left/right, Side left/right, rear left/right, center, sub

Basically, the only difference is two additional speakers to the left and right sides with 7.1.
