    computer in booting cycle
    « on: October 01, 2009, 10:15:08 PM »
Computer starts up, appears to be booting, gets to windows xp splash screen, then becomes blank, and starts again.  This cycle keeps going on and on with it never starting windows all the way.  Whats going on?  Im going to try to go into safe mode and run mbam and see if it can find viruses.  Anything else I can do?

As the system starts to boot tap the F8 key and you'll be taken to a screen offering various boot options. Choose "Disable restart on error" and reboot. What happens?

          Allan,

When I disabled the restart on failure, the computer went through the initial stages of booting, go to the win xp splash page and then failed again, but this time it gave me an error and a BSOD.  The error is
          STOP 000021a (Fatal system error)
The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000094 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down.

When  I started the system earlier without disabling the system restart, it first gave me a 'Press F11 to recover'  and then gave the windows splash screen, and then cycled again through the same thing

I feel that if I try the F11 approach, I might lose my data

          What else can I do

I just took the easy road out.  I transferred all the data to another computer, then wiped and reloaded XP.  Works well, but the only downside to this is that all t he program applications have to be loaded again
