    Need Help Formatting New Drive.
    « on: October 10, 2009, 05:13:43 PM »
I built a computer out of some old and new parts. The pc uses an eMachines W3052 mother board and the processor it came with (AMD Semperon 3000+). I installed a sata card so I could install a 1tb Sata HDD for media storage. I installed the drive correctly and installed the drivers from the cd it came with. My pc does recognize the sata card but my drive wont show up in My Computer. I am currently running XP Pro on this machine. Any ideas on why I can't access my larger drive? Do I need to update my BIOS? Should I update to Vista? When I look under computer management it shows the drive but I cant locate it and it does not show up in my computer. Please Help!

Do I need to update my BIOS?
No. You said the BIOS sees the drive. -Right?
If you are using the XP CD and Drivers that came with the PC, you should have no problem. My guess is that you did not install the right drivers. But the BIOS sees the drive.
You did the Disk Management tool in the Administrative tools? -right?
Yon want to partition and format it.

I have found it in disk management. It has 927.35 GB in one box and 4.16 GB in another. The both say "Healthy (unknown partition)". If I right click on the smaller portion, the only option I get is "Delete Logical Drive" and "Help" and when I right click on the larger partition I get "Delete Partition" and "Help". I just want one partition and I want to format it to NTFS.

      Leave the small partition alone!
You should be able to format the large partition.
