Going from Windows 2000 to Windows 7

I didn't know if this should go under software or hardware.  I have a fairly recent machine I built using an Asus P5N-E SLI mobo and I kept Windows 2000 because I had no problems with it.  I'm now building a new machine on an Asus P7H55-M PRO board and I'm putting Windows 7 64-bit on it.  I'd like to transfer my email profiles and other settings from Firefox, Thunderbird and move other programs I use often.  Would it be easier to use something like Laplink PCMover or just put my old HDD in temporarily and try to transfer the settings and programs by hand?

You can do it by simply using MozBackup: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

You can't. Programs have to be reinstalled.

Thanks Broni.  I didn't know about MozBackup.  I figured I would have to reinstall the programs but I was wondering if there was an easy way to transfer the settings, like license info and such.  I'm not sure where that all is and was just trying to make the job a little easier.  Thanks for the help.
