Is this a brand new MB?

Does Device Manager identify the USB name for the Host Controller?  Then go directly to the chipset manufacturer for the driver.

You need Vista Prem 64bit

That's probably it.  Not sure if SiS has a Vista 64-bit driver.

Just to say this problem resolved itself about a fortnight later.... I could not post this earlier as I gave this PC to my sister, & have only just visited her recently so did not know! Many thanks to all who helped. Just another of lifes little mysteries I suppose...
