right clicking on a file on my desktop hangs up my computer

The hour glass just sits there and I have to reboot.  I have scanned for malware and viruses and nothing bad comes up.  I have Windows XP.  Any help would be VERY appreciated!

Thanks for the quick response Allan.  I cannot right click on a folder or a single file without hanging up.  I believe that menu that normally comes up when you right click is called a Context Menu (I'm trying!) and that does not even come up.

Does this only happen with desktop icons or does it also happen within Windows Explorer?

Did this just start? If so, what is new since the last time it worked properly (new hw, sw, error, virus, etc)?

The only new software installed was Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware program.  It did detect a couple of viruses.  I have pasted in the log below.  I have run the scan a couple more times and it has not found anything else.  My computer also hangs up when right clicking a file in Windows Explorer.
