Screen Problem
« on: June 24, 2005, 10:55:15 AM »
I know someone with a Toshiba Tecra 8100. The screen backlight keeps shutting itself off. I was using it, and it got to the point where I couldn't get the light to stay on at all.  ???

I've checked the BIOS settings, and there are no power saving features enabled because it is always plugged in.

Hello John, after a bit of digging around, I found this:

http://nickgoddard.blogspot.com/2004/12/toshiba-tecra-8100-screen-blank.html

it seems Toshiba IS aware of this problem and the models it affects. So hopefully your buddy can call the number in that post and get his issue resolved. Cheers!!

It turns out her hard drive was dying :( . The computer started shutting itself down. She talked to someone in the family (a pro, who happened to give her the computer) about it and he said it lasted a year longer than he thought it was going to. It was from a buisness, so it got used alot.

It shut down while she was using it. I disabled every single power setting known to man and I still does it. The hard drive is just starting to die now.
