    Is there a way to have 2 monitors displaying a different screen background at the same time on Windows 7 64bit o/s

    Yes, but you need 3rd party program, like UltraMon.

    Not necessarily.  I have two monitors on my Win XP computer and I have different desktop backgrounds on the two monitors.  This is done using nVidia's software; of course, I have a nVidia video card.  I believe this can be done with ATI video cards, also.
