i am a new member here.. plz help me..

i am a small server engg.(Admin also), with my little salary i never think about high syste, config.. but last few days i save some money and ready to upgrade my dual core Intel system to quad core system.. (so need help)

my old computer have 500Gb segate Sata HDD, Asrock 945 Board, 9500Gt Nvidia, 3GB DDR2ram and 450w Smps.. only i have to update CPU, Motherboard, Ram.

i am not a extreme gamer. so i want one time investment and get powerful sys.

plz guide me which one to choose..

1.Cpu (Intel Quad core q9650 , q9550 / Amd Phenom X4 965, 955)
2.DDR2 ram (i dont have budget to buy DDR3)
3.Motherboard u tell me..

I'm just scratching my head and wondering why you're thinking of upgrading. To me, it doesn't make sense.  You mention limited financial resources and you already have some very solid hardware specs, so why upgrade?

Don't listen to your friends! Unless your system is struggling to cope with the tasks you throw at it like heavy gaming, video encoding etc upgrading would be a waste of money. If you want more ram just buy another stick!

You will not benefit from a Quad Core over a Dual Core unless you encode allot of video and such so stick with that Dual Core theres plenty of life in her yet!

I agree with the other guys.Buy 1 more Gig of ram or faster ram and your done.
I run a entire softwarestudio on my dual-core and I only get in trouble when I really push my system.

Ps;If you really want to upgrade and have little money wait till the now very expensive stuff gets cheaper and do a proper upgrade.By that time your system might really need an upgrade and it will cost you a lot less.

The consensus from previous posts is that he would be foolish to upgrade now.  He had no particular reason to upgrade other than being ill-advised by a friend.

I agree with everyone else that this is a silly reason to upgrade.

I mean, if they asked you to jump off a bridge, you'd probably want them to at least explain why... otherwise you'd be wondering all the way down.

IMO your "old" computer is plenty powerful even for today's games.
