Hi evilfantasy, thankyou for all your postings. I've tried it all and wondering if you're able to assist further. The msls51 error message does not even allow me to access Task Manager nor does it allow me to log into my desktop. I've tried putting in the CD and loading it by pressing F10 but that takes me straight to the ASUS Recovery Wizard which I believe if I continue with that route it will format and delete all my files which I do not want happen. I have an ASUS F13SR laptop and I have Windows Vista.

Please assist, thank you in advance.

    Welcome to CH.

    Can you burn a CD?

    Avira AntiVir Rescue System

    1. Download the Avira AntiVir Rescue System
    - If you need a free burning application, CDBurnerXP works on all operating systems from Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 onwards.
    2. Place a blank CD in your burner and double-click on the downloaded file.
    3. The program will automatically burn the CD for you.
    4. Place the burned CD into the affected computer and start the computer with the CD in the CD tray.
    5. On the bottom left side of the screen there are 2 flags. Using your mouse click on the British flag to use English.
    6. Click on the Configuration button.

    - Select Scan all files
    - Select Try to repair infected files and Rename files, if they cannot be removed
    - Select Scan for dialers
    - Select Scan for joke programs (Jokes)
    - Select Scan for games
    - Select Scan for spyware (SPR)

    7. Click on Virus scanner
    8. Click on Start scanner at the bottom of the screen.

    9. Let Avira finish it's scan and then remove any threats found and then exit out of the scanner.
    10. Take the CD out of the CD/DVD tray and then restart the computer.

If needed see this Tutorial for the Avira Rescue CD

Although I'm able to burn the CD, I'm unable to load it when the infected laptop reboots.

      What happens?

Do you see the screen where in the lower left or right it says Press *** for boot options?

**** stands for the message which is different on most computer models.

When I put the CD in, as it loads, what do you need me to press F8? That takes me to the options of "safe mode", "normal mode", etc. but it does not provide that boot option in the lower left or right corner.

Pressing F10 as it boots up, takes me straight to the screen where it asks if I would like take the route of ASUS recovery action. Which I believe is not right as it will reformat everything and delete my files that I'm after.

Please let me know what other information you need from me. If I don't press any function keys whilst booting, then eventually the msls51.dll message pops up and unable to action anything after that.

What brand of computer is it?

You can also try F8 and choose 'Last Known Good Configuration'.

          Brand is Asus.

I've also tried F8 and the 'Last known Good Configuration'. The error still occurs when I chose this.

If the problem persist, I'm just wondering if it's possible to take out the hard drive and retrieve it data/files from that?

If you are able to do that it might be the best decision.

Hi Evilfantasy, I will try to retrieve the data from my hard drive and then try to format it. Is there any way of formatting my laptop/hard drive as I'm unable to access pass the login page.

Note: I don't have any CDs as it was already stored on my laptop. I have no idea how to format, install, etc.
