Need help to configure VoIP from different routers.
« on: March 23, 2010, 02:25:52 PM »
Dear Network professionals,

I have a question about using additional VoIP using Cablemodem connected with 2 other routers but i don't know whether it's possible to use adsl modem connected with cable modem. In order to illustrate clearly my problem and to get your advice, I have included the network connections layout as picture in this communication.

Thanks in advance,
Jeroen.

I am not currently a network pro.
But I can tell you it is less hassle to tie two things together rather that three.
So six ports is not enough? You want  nine ports?
An 8 port  switch or hub can be bought for under $40 new!

So I would say that it is not worth the effort to try to reset the ADSL device you want to force into hub service.

But if you want to, you go into the ADSL thing and disable almost everything you can think of. DHCP,  firewall, WAN. And put the IP address inside the range of the local network as a  client device.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to do with the Baricade and Copperjet routers.  Your home phone and voip is already coming off the cable modem.

I'm guessing you have one phone plugged directly into the cable modem and you are wanting to have all the phones in your home to be able to use the voip service.  Is that the case?

If that is the case, it will probably be easier to use the existing phone wiring in your home rather than trying to hook up three routers.  You would need to tie the phone line from the cable modem to the existing house wiring.  It could be as simple as taking a phone cable and plugging one end into the cable modem and the other end into an unused phone jack.

You can cascade three routers, but if you don't need to why do it?
