« on: April 27, 2010, 06:28:26 AM »
Ok so This summer I pulled out my dads old laptop and I realized there is a wireless network adapter. Which is called infrared or something like that and it scannes for connections every 3 seconds but can't find my network or my nieghboors. Is there a way to get it working again, like IDK upgrading the bios IDK.
Anyway this is my sys.
windows 98 SE
550 MHz proccessor
128 mg RAM
12 GB hdd
floppy
cd player................

P.S I already tried the computer throught a LAN connection and it worked but i need wireless?!

Any help would be useful.

Infrared is not a wireless network card.  Infrared can be used to communicate with some devices, but unfortunately it is not a wireless network card.  You may still be able to add a wireless network card to the older laptop if there is a PCMCIA slot that functions.

This just means it's looking for any other devices trying to communicate via IR. the OS sees it as a network device so it might get confused and display the state wrong.

It's searching for network and wireless devices that it's not finding.

Put down the crack pipe buddy.

IR is not Bluetooth.  Bluetooth uses short radio frequencies, IR is loong radio frequencies.  Wow.  This image is for you.
